A massive amount of history to this hidden jewel. A significant building in the area...a bit unloved...and could benefit from not just a coat of paint .but tidying also. Considering the owners of faith it's a shame.
But nonetheless worth a visit .if you're of that faith then certainly it's a must visit. Google or ask.

Visited as part of the recent Heritage Open Days... Understand is not always open to the public.
Fascinating place. There was a very informative video explaining about the family and the background to the building. Also explained about the house and college which have since been demolished.

Grade II Listed, circa 1833, attributed to David Mocatta and settled on a dominant brow aside the biblically inspired Mausoleum on Montefiore’s East Cliff Lodge Estate.
Understated elegant Regency Classicism.
Little remains of the extensive Estate and the Theological Seminary except for the Gatehouse, the entrance gate, “Italianate Greenhouse” and a parcel of grounds now comprising the George VI Memorial park.
The impact and silhouette of these timeless buildings considerably drained and diminished by the enveloping, smothering surrounding trees and undergrowth.
Montefiore, an exemplary philanthropist, humanitarian and Titan among eminent Victorians deserves better.

Historical building with an interesting history. Thank you to Benedict for an informative tour and for taking the time out to show us around. It was also a chance to discover the generosity given to the people of Ramsgate by Moses Montefiore. It has recently been lovingly restored to its former glory as I believe it was previously in a state of disrepair. I would suggest a visit if h
You have the chance.

Montefiore park may only be small but is very peaceful. Also called the butterfly park. Full of different varieties of birds and butterflies (at right time of year). Squirrels everywhere. Great for dog walking or just relaxing.

Sir Moses Montefiore s old synagogue. The great benefactor who left his home and grounds to the people to enjoy.
